Reading comprehension

Read the text about Julius Caesar and answer the questions.

Julius Caesar was a young and ambitious general in Ancient Rome. He was very successful on the battlefield and the Senate feared that Caesar used his army to overthrow the republican government.

By 45 B.C., Caesar defeated opposing forces in Rome and took over control of the entire Roman Empire. He declared himself dictator for life, giving him absolute power over the empire. He then proceeded to reform the nation, giving jobs and land to the poor.

However, Caesar’s rule in Rome would be brief. The following year in 44 B.C., Julius Caesar was murdered by members of the Senate led by Marcus Brutus and Gaius Cassius, who were worried that Caesar was destroying the republic.

Answer the following questions:
- Who was Julius Caesar?
- When did he take over control of the Roman Empire?
- Did he rule for a long time?
- Why was he murdered?
